Let The Good Times Roll!!

Today is the day called Mardi Gras. Those are fancy French words that mean "Fat Tuesday". I was really confused about why everyone was supposed to be fat and how they were only going to be fat for one day.

Then Mom explained that the day called Mardi Gras is last day before the time called Lent begins. This is the time before the day called Easter. Mom says that lots of people give up something they really really like for the time called Lent and that Mardi Gras is like the last party before that starts. Mom also says that since we are Baptist-type people, we don't really have to give anything up. This is good news to me. I would have missed my applesauce and Violet the dog and I don't think Mom could survive her days at big work without Diet Mountain Dew and chocolate.

Another important thing I learned about Mardi Gras is that you get to wear beads. Pretty, sparkly beads. At the big parties in places like the town called New Orleans, if you yell "Throw me something, mister!!" they fling beads in your general direction. I just looked real cute at Mom and she gave me hers. :)

The last thing I learned about Mardi Gras are some funny words. Laissez les bons temps rouler. I had no idea what Mom was talking about. (Mom just said she would like to be a fly on the wall when Granny Kat reads that to Grandmother. I'm not sure what that means...) Mom told me that it just means "Let the good times roll" in that fancy French language. I think that means you're supposed to have fun.

I didn't have much fun today though. My tummy was hurting and I just felt out of sorts. I didn't have a very good day. I've been better since Mom came home, though. I played, took a bath and ate dinner.

Something peculiar has started happening lately. After dinner, Mom says I have to brush my teeth. She says that people with teeth have to take good care of them and keep them clean. So she puts this blue thing on her finger, squeezes some goo onto it, and shoves it in my mouth. It feels funny and the goo tastes good. It's still weird, though.

It feels funny when she rubs that blue thing in my mouth, but I let her do it because I want to be a good girl with pretty teeth. :)

Now that I've brushed my teeth, I'm going to try to get some sleep. I can go to bed happy!! My Gamecocks just beat those Tigers on the baseball field. Annas do not like tigers...
