Groundhogs and Football

Mom stayed home with me again today. Salleigh is feeling better, but Mom wasn't sure that she would be, so she had already planned to stay home for the day. Mom said she was glad she was home because I kept her up almost all night. I said I was sorry, but I don't think she understood me. I can't say exactly what was wrong or why I couldn't sleep, but I just didn't feel right.

Brenna came over this morning! We played all day! And we watched some tv, too...

Apparently, today was a day with a name. I got confused somewhere, because I heard people calling it two different things. First, they were calling it Groundhog Day. It seems that on this day, people drag these rodents out of their beds in the ground and check for shadows. The shadow somehow predicts the weather. Um. What?? The guy on tv with all the colorful maps can't even get it right and now we're listening to furry little critters??? Well, at any rate, the head groundhog (I think they said his name was Phil) didn't have a shadow. They say that means the warm Spring will be arriving soon. I think this is very silly.

They were also calling this day Signing Day. Mom said that today was the day when the guys that will be going to college to play football sign the papers that say that they promise to play for their new team. People who love college football pay attention on Signing Day because that's when they find out who will be joining their favorite team when the season starts again. Of course, Mom and I were keeping a close eye on the new Gamecocks! It was sort of exciting!

At the end of the day, the Gamecocks got some good new players. Mom says it will be a long wait for football season to begin. I love my Gamecocks!

After all of the hullabaloo over the groundhogs and the football players, it was time for dinner. I had a new food tonight. Peaches! Mom says that peaches are the state fruit of South Carolina. State fruit or not, I wasn't sure I liked them at first.

After I got used to the new taste, I liked the peaches! I'll have some more tomorrow!
